patients ask “What products should I use for better oral health?”, dental
practitioners should be able to provide evidence based answers! When they are taking medications and present
with changes in oral tissues, are these changes medication related? This program is designed to help dental practitioners update their patients with information
on the latest therapeutic, non-prescription oral healthcare products as well as
prescribed products and to facilitate the identification of oral manifestations
of systemic medications. This program will also review recent developments in
chemotherapeutic oral health care, as well as updating periodontal
considerations for implants. Learning Objectives: · Recognize oral manifestations of systemic
medications. · Understand the impact of systemic medications on dental
therapy. · Understand the role of mouth rinses, dentifrices and oral
care products in patient therapy. · Understand the role of antibiotics as adjuncts to

Ciancio, DDS '61, is Distinguished Service Professor and Chair, Dept. of Periodontics and Endodontics; Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at UB School of Dental Medicine; Director of the Center for Dental Studies; Diplomate , American Board of Periodontology; past president of the American Academy of Periodontology and its Foundation and the International Academy of Periodontology; and author of over 150 scientific papers. He is editor of the ADA/PDR Guide to Dental Therapeutica and has received numerous national honors including the Distinguished Scientist Award in Pharmacology from the International Assn. for Dental Research.
