A RECIPE FOR IMMEDIATE IMPLANT PLACEMENT AND LOADING
Supported by an educational grant from Nobel Biocare.

This unique program encourages the participant to explore
the boundaries of modern implant dentistry in relation to implant loading
protocols, which have changed significantly since the first osseointegrated
implant was placed. Treatment
planning the anterior single implant to ensure esthetic results requires a
thorough study and understanding of the biology and behavior of the
peri-implant tissues. Decreased
treatment time, fewer surgical procedures, reduced costs, and patient
preference for non-removable restorations are among the benefits of prescribing
an immediate function protocol. In
this course, definitions, treatment time differences, and outcomes are
clarified for immediate and delayed implant placement following extraction(s),
and for the various restoration approaches. The critical success factors for immediate protocol are
explored in this program to allow for the development of these essential
skills. Developing research
suggests that there may be significant physiological benefits associated with
this procedure that improve patient outcome and experience, and may be regarded
as a growing area of today’s specialist practice.
Course
Objectives:
·
Evolution of the concept from conventional to
immediate implant placement.
·
Merits and practical implications of immediate
placement with documented success rates and scientific
evidence.
·
Case selection and treatment planning.
·
Atraumatic, minimally invasive extraction techniques
and armamentarium.
·
Understanding the modified drilling protocol to ensure
correct spatial orientation of implant.

David Gelb,
DDS, PC completed his DDS and Certificate in Periodontics at
Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in New York and his
implant surgical training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Gelb is a diplomate of the American
Academy of Periodontology, a fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration, and a
fellow of the American and International College of Dentists. He is on staff at Hartford Hospital and
has provided implant services in West Hartford for over twenty-five years.
Dr. Gelb has achieved recognition as a leader in
implant dentistry having pioneered surgical procedures for finite esthetics in
implant dentistry, immediate implant placement, and bone regeneration. He lectures nationally and
internationally at major implant meetings and publishes extensively in journals
worldwide on implant dentistry. He
developed the “Gelb Radiographic Depth Gauge,” a diagnostic surgical guide to
heighten precise and optimum implant placement, and designed “The Implant
Tracker,” a comprehensive software program to manage the implant practice.
Dr. Gelb maintains a private practice limited to
periodontics and implant surgery in his state-of-the-art facility in West
Hartford, Connecticut.
Dr. Gelb, (or an immediate family member) has a significant
relationship with the following commercial organizations whose products he will
refer to in this presentation:
Nobel Biocare, Biomet, and Implant Tracker.
