Peri-implant complications, just like periodontal complications, may appear similar during visual examination. It is critical to know how to differentiate between and determine the underlying cause of the complication in order to properly treat the disease. Knowing the “why” of the problem is critical in treatment success and patient engagement!

A comprehensive understanding of signs, symptoms, and etiology of peri-implant complications, along with the most current, evidence-based maintenance protocols, including instrumentation and how to implement them in your practice, will be discussed. 

Course Objectives: 

• Understand the history of and rationale for dental implants: Why Implants?
• Recognize the different implant types, terminology and surface preparations.
• Differentiate between and understand assessment & treatment protocols for peri-implant mucositis, implantitis and cementitis.
• Develop customized maintenance protocols for both in-office and client home care.
