Descriptions: This program is designed to provide an overview of the
modern approach and trends for impression and temporization procedures in
implant dentistry. Particular
attention will be paid to the desired esthetic result for the final
restoration. Attendees will review
how to choose the right abutment and impression materials for implant and
abutment level compressions for conventional and implant dentistry. Attendees will also learn to evaluate
esthetics of the anterior dentition, shape and develop the perio-implant tissue
/ subgingival tissue, so the transfer of appropriate data to the laboratory
technician is available when creating provisional restorations. These procedures will be discussed in
the lecture format, and then participants will use models to practice
impression-taking and temporization procedures. Learning

Discuss proper tissue management with respect to
impression taking ·
Recognize the difference in impression techniques for
tissue level and bone level implants ·
Select appropriate components for impression-taking
at the implant or abutment level ·
Understand the importance of a provisional
restoration, related to emergence profile and soft tissue management ·
Fabricate contoured provisionals and customized
impression copings ·
Transfer necessary data to the laboratory for the

Donald A.
Somerville B.Sc., DMD, MS received his DMD from University of Connecticut
School of Dental Medicine and a Certificate and MS in Prosthodontics from Texas
A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Somerville also completed the
Harvard-Wide General Practice Residency program at the Brigham and Women’s
Hospital in Boston, MA. He is
currently the director of the Center for Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry
in the New England Musculoskeletal Institute and the University at Connecticut
School of Dental Medicine. He is
actively involved in the education of dental professionals on the subjects of
prosthodontics and dental implants and has lecture extensively in the United
States and Canada. Dr. Somerville is a former full-time faculty and residency
director of the AEGD residency at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. |
