technologic advances in the field of medicine during the 20th century,
atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death
in the United States and most developed countries. Modification of multiple risk factors (smoking, blood pressure,
cholesterol, obesity) through a combination of comprehensive lifestyle
interventions and appropriate pharmacological therapy is now widely recognized
as the cornerstone of initiatives aimed at the prevention of CVD.

build-up in the arteries and how it relates to coronary artery disease,
peripheral vascular disease, and stroke

LDL, HDL, and triglycerides and their role in atherosclerosis
