Program Faculty

ADAPT Coordinator: Nancy L. Robinson, RDH, CDA, MS.Ed, Instructor, Dental Radiology and Techniques of Dental Assisting UB Educational Opportunity Center; Nancy has been actively involved in the legislative process to credential and provide educational pathways for Dental Assistants in New York State for many years.

ADAPT...Advanced Dental Assisting Program Track

This program was developed to meet an increasing demand for licensed certified dental assistants across New York State. Since August 1998, hundreds of students have completed ADAPT and become NY licensed Certified Dental Assistants. Most students complete the program in twelve to fifteen weeks.





To participate in the program you must be:

  • Dental Assisting National Board (DANB / CDA) Certified prior to starting ADAPT.
  • Employed by a dentist who agrees to act as a preceptor; monitor assignments, certify completed work by notarized signature, certify clinical and laboratory competency and verify 200 hours of clinical work experience from date of program enrollment.

Registration and Tuition

Enrollment is continuous. Tuition is $1595.00 due with registration and is payable by credit card or check made payable to UB Foundation. A payment plan is available, call 716.829.2320 for details. Please allow 2-3 weeks for registration. Your password and username will arrive by e-mail.

Program Details

Access
Registered participants login to ADAPT Online at anytime through the Internet. Upon registration and tuition payment, you receive an ADAPT study notebook in which to keep detailed course materials and homework assignments which you will download from the Internet. Clinical exercises and evaluations must be completed at the dental office site under preceptor guidance. Corresponding textbook and ADAPT notebook references provide the basis for online testing.

Modules The program consists of 6 theoretical and 7 clinical modules:
THEORETICAL
1 Communication and Basic Behavioral Concepts
2 Legal Aspects, Terminology, Recordkeeping, Charting, Dental Radiology
3 Oral Pathology
4 Body Structures and Functions
5 Prevention, Nutrition & Patient Education
6 Oral Histology & Embryology
CLINICAL
7 Rubber Dam, Matrix Bands, and Wedge
8 Dental Radiology
9 Vital signs, Impressions and Study Models
10 Temporary Coverage/Cements
11 Orthodontic Arch Wires, Bands, and Ligature ties
12 Remove sutures, periodontal dressing, apply agents
Restorative Component required as of September 2007

Testing and Grading

Students take module tests online. Tests can be accessed anytime. Students are expected to complete homework/clinical assignments before taking module tests. Students must attain a test score of at least 75% before going on to the next module. Participants must complete a minimum of 200 clinical hours between the date of registration and course completion.
